Hybrid clubs are a relatively new thing in golf; the name comes from merging the feel of irons with the reliability and accuracy woods. Hybrid golf club sets are the new big thing in golf and more and more golfers are exploiting their benefits as they are easier to hit than irons. Even pros have hybrids in their bag with more than 50% having a hybrid in their bag.

Because the clubhead and clubface of a hybrid golf club are the same as a wood then the contact you will get will be similar i.e. a high launch angle with lots of backspin allowing you to hit long shots into a green that can stop on the green and not roll through. You should swing a hybrid club the same as you would a long iron with the ball set up slightly forward in your stance. Then just hit down and through on the ball and the hybrid golf club will do the rest. You can even use it off the tee, just tee it up and let rip as you would normally.

Difficult Shots Using the Hybrid Golf Iron

So which shots would suit a hybrid instead of a traditional iron? Well firstly if you are hemmed in and have a long accurate shot to play to a green then choose a hybrid. As hybrids are made to be more consistent than irons this would be ideal and you also have a chance of stopping the ball on the green. Another shot where the hybrid comes into its own is out of the rough; because of the extra weight in the clubhead and its shape it cuts through the long grass easier than an iron and you are more likely to get a good contact and move the ball a good distance. If there is a hazard in front of the green a hybrid is also very useful as it hits the ball higher than an iron and you have a chance of stopping the ball quicker and still hitting the green giving yourself a birdie chance.
