The thing that sets this type of golf clubs apart from any other irons is the design of the clubs. It is a mix of a good iron, as well as a good fairway wood. It has a head and face to mimic a fairway wood, which is made generally of hollow steel with the center of gravity placed less towards the center, and more towards the back and a touch to the bottom. With this design, it creates a higher loft, but with the same swing. Once the ball is hit, it catches more air (due to the loft) and creates more backspin than with your ordinary iron (for example taylormade r9 irons) or wood, which allows you to be more precise with your shot location.
The shaft of this hybrid golf club is usually made of steel as well; however it is shorter than that of a fairway wood. It is also stiffer, than that of a fairway wood as well which in turn, makes the shaft length and angle mimic more of an iron.
Hybrid golf clubs can make your swing much easier than that of an average fairway wood. Now you can just try to get yourself a hybrid to test, hope you can lower you score.
