The TaylorMade® Raylor® hybrid is the ultimate weapon for escaping the rough. The ship’s hull-shaped sole design glides through tall grass, while the V-shaped leading edge slices downward for clean contact. The super-low CG helps get the ball onto a high, long-carrying, soft-landing flight.

Outstanding on the fairway and especially in the rough for mid-high handicappers, June 13, 2011

This review is from: Taylormade Raylor Hybrid Club 3H 19° Regular Flex (Misc.)

I purchased this at a local retailer when they were going out of business (sorry Amazon!). I purchased the 3H 19 degree with a regular flex. It was the last one in the store and I normally swing with a stiff flex, but it worked out just fine. If you’re a mid-high handicap and have trouble hitting fairway woods or long irons off the fairway or ESPECIALLY out of the rough, this club is for you. Very forgiving on mis-hits and pretty difficult to slice with, the bottom of the clubhead is shaped especially for cutting through thick grass and getting you out of that rough with excellent distance. Once, I was even able to hit out of a very shallow sandtrap and get 150 yards down the fairway. Off the fairway this club can easily surpass 200 yds with a moderate swing – and you’re rewarded for a sweet-spot hit with a pleasant, high pitched ‘Plink!’. My iron set didn’t come with a 3-iron and honestly I prefer this solution to a long iron. This would also be an excellent club if you wanted anything between a driver and a four-iron and didn’t want to purchase 2-3 clubs. Now that this is in my bag I very rarely reach for my Titleist 3-wood, except for that short par-4 off the tee. My only complaint would be that the grip isn’t too sticky or thick out of the bag, so for you high-speed swingers you may want to re-grip with a Golf Pride or something along those lines. Happy golfing.
